Dermal Piercing Aftercare

We understand that a piercing can be very meaningful and create a

Dermal piercings are more prone to migration and rejection than regular body piercings. Be mindful that dermal anchors can get irritated or infection can be caused by catching and undue pressure on the piercing.

It is the body’s natural response to want to push out a foreign object, this can work against a dermal piercing’s success. The jewelry we use has three holes in the base which allows tissue to grow around the piercing, minimizing the risk of migration and rejection.

  • Keep your dermal piercings clean, ensuring you have washed hands while caring for the piercing
  • The piercing takes 6-12 weeks to fully heal
  • Take care of your health, this includes getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy, avoiding drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.
  • Keep a Band-Aid over the piercing for 2 days, after the 2 days clean with saline solution and cover again. Continue this process for 2 weeks, cleaning with saline solution once a week
  • While dressing, be careful when changing clothing as you want to reduce snagging the piercing, also avoid tight clothing
  • Avoid baths, pools and spas to reduce bacteria
  • Limit touching the piercing and never twist or turn the piercing
  • If crusting forms, spray with aftercare to soften it, and the gently wipe it away with a clean tissue
  • Do not soap up your dermal piercing directly, it’s ok to let sudsy water run over the dermal piercing in the shower.
  • Do not apply creams, oils, ointments, or balms to your healing piercing, instead soak the area with a saline solution daily.
  • Do not try to change your dermal tops prematurely. Wait a minimum of 3 months after the piercing before attempting to change the dermal top, it is recommended to have your piercer change the tops for the first time.
